On the River at Fakenham

A lovely old postcard to add to the Fakenham Life ephemera collection, a flat capped boatman seemingly punting along on the Wensum in maybe the 1930’s (?). The card is written on the back and has been used but the stamps have been torn and the postmark is illegible, but from what I can see of the stamps, they are certainly King George V.

The Bridge, Fakenham

Another piece of Fakenham ephemera: an old postcard of the bridge in town. I love the early colour printing on this card and if you look closely the Edwardian (I reckon) clothing style of the children on the bridge. Haven’t worked out which way this is looking but I’m guessing it’s away from Fakenham Mill and thus looking south east…

River Wensum

Had the opportunity to go down for the first time to the three arched railway bridge over the Wensum on the east side of Fakenham earlier this week to take some photos of a client. Got there a few minutes early and was able to shoot this view of the Wensum which is a very beautiful river. Classified by Natural England as a Special Area of Conservation (which makes it a European protected site) the Wensum is chalk river which rises close to Fakenham (between Colkirk and Whissonsett), flows through the town and then on to eventually flow through the centre of Norwich and then join the Yare before flowing out to the North Sea. The view in front of me was lovely:
